Jesus Guzman singled home Kevin Frandsen with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as the Giants won their spring training opener 8-7 over the Seattle Mariners on

Wednesday in Peoria Ariz.

Time to play good news/bad news with the spring opener.

Aubrey Huff – Good news: The Giants’ new first basemen hit a two-run home run in his first spring training at-bat. Bad news: Huff also committed his error of the spring. We can only hope the runs Huff produces with his bat are not negated by the runs he gives back with his glove.

Emmanuel Burriss – Good news: After missing most of last season with a foot injury, Burriss looked great in his spring debut, going 2 for 2 with two doubles, two RBI and a stolen base while starting at shortstop. Bad news: Burriss felt pain in the same foot he had surgery on last season. X-rays showed no break, but Burriss needed crutches to get around. He’ll have an MRI Thursday.

Tim Lincecum – Bad news: The two-time reigning Cy Young winner gave up three runs (two earned) in one inning of work Wednesday. Good news: His arm didn’t fall off, which is all you need to be worried about from a start in early March.

Aaron Rowand — Good news: The Giants’ leadoff hitter was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 runs scored and no strikeouts. Bad news: It’s only March 3.
